We stand in heartbroken solidarity with the Muslim community of San Diego after three people, including a heroic security guard, were murdered in what police are investigating as a hate crime.
As Jews and as Zionists, we know how it feels to be targeted for who you are, what faith you practice and what ethnicity you inherited. We know the particular terror of being attacked in a house of worship, in a country that promises religious freedom and minority protection. Whether at a synagogue or an Islamic center, it is unconscionable.
An attack on any faith community is an attack on our democracy and on all of us. Hate-fueled violence against any people, any religion, any house of worship must be condemned without qualification or reservation. We will not look away. We will not be selective in our outrage. We stand unflinchingly against the hate targeting the Muslim community today and every day.
